About Us
About Most Valuable Friend
Most Valuable Friend is a nonprofit created to help children and young people with communication and social challenges build real, meaningful friendships.
Making friends can be hard for anyone. For kids with speech, language, or social communication differences, it can feel especially isolating. Many families want connection for their child—but don’t always know where to start, who to trust, or how to find others who truly understand.
Most Valuable Friend exists to help make that first connection easier.
Why We Started
Most Valuable Friend
Most Valuable Friend was inspired by our family’s own experience.
Dylan’s older brother was born with a cleft palate and required extensive speech and language therapy. While he made significant progress, communication and social interaction have remained ongoing challenges—and making friends has often been difficult.
Through that journey, we saw how common this experience is for other families: children who want connection, parents who want support, and very few intentional ways to bring people together safely.
We realized that even one meaningful friendship can make a real difference—not just for a child, but for their entire family.
Who We Serve
We focus on children and young people—generally ages 5 and up—who experience challenges with communication, social interaction, or related differences.
At this stage, Most Valuable Friend is a local initiative serving the Dallas–Fort Worth area.
We work closely with:
Families and parents
Schools and educators
Speech, language, and occupational therapists
Community and nonprofit organizations
Many of our early connections come through referrals from trusted partners in the community.
We believe friendship should feel normal—not clinical, forced, or transactional. Our work is centered on creating connections that feel comfortable, natural, and supportive for everyone involved.
That means keeping things flexible, respecting each child’s comfort level, involving parents at every step, and moving at a pace that feels right for each family. We know there’s no one-size-fits-all solution, which is why our approach is intentionally personal and adaptive.
Safety and trust are central to everything we do. Participation is parent-led, and we take a thoughtful, hands-on approach to introductions and connections. There is no direct online interaction between children, and we prioritize transparency, communication, and care throughout the process.
Our goal is simple: to create positive, supportive experiences that help kids—and their families—build meaningful friendships.
